Ridge Vent Systems
A roof ventilation ridge vent is installed along the apex of an industrial or commercial roof to continuously exhaust hot air, humidity and pollutants — harnessing the natural stack effect (warm air rises) without mechanical energy.
Installed at the highest point of the building, ridge vents create a permanent, maintenance-free ventilation path that significantly reduces internal temperatures, prevents condensation and improves air quality for workers and equipment below.

A ridge vent provides continuous passive ventilation along the roof ridge during normal building operation — exhausting heat, humidity and contaminants via the natural stack effect. It is a fixed open vent with no active opening mechanism. A smoke vent is an emergency life-safety device that remains closed during normal building operation and opens automatically (or manually) only when a fire is detected — rapidly exhausting toxic smoke and hot gases to protect life and assist firefighters. Geometric Steels supplies both systems, which are designed to work together as part of a coordinated roof ventilation and fire safety strategy.
Smoke vents are available with two actuation systems: Electric actuation — operating on electric actuators up to 24V DC, triggered automatically by a smoke sensor or manually via a fire alarm button; and Pneumatic actuation — using cylinders that operate independently of the building electrical supply, providing resilience in power-failure scenarios. Both systems incorporate a mechanical interlock that guarantees vent opening under emergency conditions even in extreme heat or if the primary actuation system fails.
Four metal louver types are available: Industrial/Intake Louvers — high free-area ventilation for factory fresh-air intake; Commercial/Sunshade Aluminium Louvers — powder-coated aluminium for commercial building facades, sunshading and architectural ventilation; Sand Trap Louvers — baffled design for air intake filtration in dusty or desert environments, preventing particulate ingress into air-handling systems and sensitive spaces; Round Edge Louvers — smooth-profile metal louvers for both industrial and commercial general ventilation applications. All types are available in customisable sizes, blade spacings and finishes.
Electric-operated windows activate automatically when a smoke sensor detects fire, or can be manually opened immediately via a fire alarm button — without requiring personnel to physically reach and open each window. By creating rapid air intake paths at wall level, they drive a pressure differential that forces smoke and hot gas upward and out through roof-level smoke vents — significantly accelerating smoke clearance. The windows are available in above-hanging and below-hanging configurations with chain or hydraulic actuators, and glass or polycarbonate panels. In daily operation, they also serve as natural ventilation intake openings — working with ridge vents above to create a continuous cross-ventilation airflow path.
